FODMAP is an acronym for "Fermentable Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides And Polyols."

For some, eating food high in FODMAPS exasperate gastro-intestinal symptoms similar to Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Individuals living with SIBO or SIFO are in this group. Other people may finde relief on a low FODMAP plan if their gut microbiome has an imbalance of bacteria types.

For those with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) or SIFO (small intestinal fungal overgrowth) food in FODMAPS are to be avoided via eliminating then from one's diet for some time before reintroducing them back in systematically.
